IN THE 1970s, a Cambodian father perished at the hands of the Khmer Rouge, leaving only a diary behind. We got a chance to partner with Nick’s former colleague from AP’s Asia Bureau to produce this video and interactive package. The Last Word explored this man’s personal struggle, while examining the little-known historical context and brutality of the Cambodian genocide.
The design was purposefully unobtrusive to let the content of this rare artifact shine and to honor this man’s final words before he fell victim to the Khmer Rouge
