For the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, The New York Times sent photographer Fred Conrad to shoot portraits of the workers rebuilding the World Trade Center. Every worker he photographed had a connection or personal story from the day of the attacks. The Workers showcases these powerful images and their heartbreaking stories as they worked to rebuild what was lost.
The project is an interactive grid of the portraits of the workers with intimate audio clips from interviews about memories of 9/11 and the experience of rebuilding after such a loss.
